A little bit about our journey
Our Story
Owner and Manager, Carolyn McDonald was a nurse and then a classroom assistant.
“I was a working mum with two small children and knew there was a gap for good quality childcare in Dromore. The population was growing really quickly with more and more families needing support.
I just knew that I wanted to run a business in childcare.”
Carolyn’s challenge, however, was finding a suitable location for a nursery. After months of searching, Carolyn came across Dromore’s now derelict train station.
“I convinced the owner to rent Dromore railway station and renovate it into a nursery.”
In 2000, The Old Station opened its doors to the first group of children and parents.
“Can you believe that the initial lease was for just 5 years – and here we are 21 years later.”
The Old Station has grown into a family business with that passion for providing homely childcare at its heart.
Today, Carolyn is supported in the nursery by her own children, Hollie and Claire who have followed her into the business with the same love and dedication to The Old Station Nursery as their mum.
Our Mission
We aim to create a nurturing, inclusive environment in partnership with parents; where each child can reach their full potential in an environment that is safe, secure, happy, healthy and stimulating.
We strive to create a home from home that gives you trust that your child is well cared for and builds the confidence of your child to take the next step.
Today
Today Carolyn is supported by her Management team, Claire, Joanne & Hollie. Together they help maintain high standards of care at The Old Station Day Care Nursery & Pre-school in the characteristic and charming old train station in Dromore.
The Nursery offers full day care for children aged between 6 weeks and 12 years with the benefit of Playgroups and an After-School and summer club.

We continue to develop our business according to legislation regarding childcare and education.
